Rick Renteria, dismissed by the Chicago White Sox, comes in 2nd for AL Manager of the Year, while the Cubs’ David Ross finishes 3rd in NL voting

Rick Renteria, whom the Chicago White Sox parted with after he guided them to their first playoff appearance in 12 years, placed second in American League Manager of the Year voting, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Tuesday.

The Tampa Bay Rays’ Kevin Cash won with 126 points, receiving 22 of the 30 first-place votes. Renteria got five first-place votes, nine seconds and nine thirds for 61 points, while the Toronto Blue Jays’ Charlie Montoyo was third with 47 points (two firsts).

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross finished third in National League Manager of the Year voting behind winner Don Mattingly of the Miami Marlins and the San Diego Padres’ Jayce Tingler.
