In his last start Tuesday, Lopez carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Yankees. He’s given up only three earned runs over his last two outings.
But he also is the same guy who got torched for eight runs at home against the Blue Jay and is 0-4 with two no-decisions and a 6.06 ERA over his last six outings.
As Lopez (4-9, 4.30 ERA) takes on fellow right-hander Artie Lewicki (0-2, 4.76) against the Tigers in Detroit on Monday, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said the difference between his bad performances in July and his success so far in August usually hinges on focus and a commitment to attacking the strike zone.
