Tony Bernazard was a solid second baseman, combining a little pop, some speed and a solid eye at the plate. He was the second baseman for the 1983 White Sox before they started “Winning Ugly.” Remember that guy?
Born Aug. 24, 1956, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, same as another White Sox second baseman, Joey Cora. Bernazard was signed by the Expos at the age of 17 in 1973. After some minor league seasoning, the switch-hitter made his way to the major leagues, where he debuted on July 13, 1979, against the Padres. His first career plate appearance was a bases loaded walk against Gaylord Perry; the three Expos on base at the time?
