First-Place Report

The White Sox, with an American League-best 21-10 record, increased their lead in the A.L. Central to five games over both the Indians and Royals with the 7-2 victory over the Twins. Chris Sale (7-0, 1.79) earned the win and became the first major leaguer to reach seven victories. He also becomes only the fifth Sox pitcher to win his first seven starts of a season–Eddie Cicotte (12, 1919), John Whitehead (8, 1935), Jack McDowell (7, 1993) and Jon Garland (8, 2005) are the others.
