‘Punch A.J.’ landed 10 years ago and we’ll never forget it

Henry Blanco will never forget the fight between the Cubs and White Sox that took place 10 years ago Friday.

“I still remember seeing the picture where Lou Piniella fell down,” the Cubs coach said in Milwaukee on Thursday.

OK, wrong fight.

For a second, Blanco, who was a backup catcher for the Cubs way back when, transposed details from the Cubs-Sox melee in 2006 with the Cubs-Padres fight in 2007. The latter fight, which took place at Wrigley Field, had Derrek Lee and San Diego pitcher Chris Young throwing wildly missed haymakers, Piniella falling down trying to break it up, and Carlos Zambrano, who was in the middle of a no-hit bid, running out of the clubhouse with his belt unbuckled ready to throw down.
