[Last night, Pete Ward passed away at the age of 84. He was acquired by the White Sox very early in his career, as part of the Luis Aparicio trade that improbably became an utter steal for the South Siders. Ward and teammate Gary Peters were the co-winners of the AL Rookie of the Year, and Ward himself finished ninth in AL MVP voting. Not a bad debut! Ward’s 20.0 WAR as a White Sox player ranks him 27th all-time among franchise hitters and 49th all-time among all players.
Our Mark Liptak knew Pete well, and had been a guest in his home.
