Mike Sullivan confirmed following Monday's practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex that Patric Hornqvist is unlikely to play in the opener against the Blues on Wednesday.
Hornqvist had hand surgery over the summer and is still in the recovery process, though Sullivan insisted the rugged winger has not endured a setback.
Still, not having Hornqvist on the active roster could result in a setback for the Penguins, especially on the power play.
“He's a huge, huge part of what we do,” Kris Letang said, referring specifically to the power play. “Everyone knows how good he is in front of the net.
