The White Sox did the expected Tuesday, reassigning Michael Kopech to minor-league camp to prepare for his season at Triple-A Charlotte.
Kopech might have the best arm of any pitcher in camp, as evidenced by his triple-digit fastball. But he wasn’t in the plans from the start and didn’t do himself any favors with his final two Cactus League outings, allowing 12 runs (nine earned) in 2 2/3 innings to finish with a bloated 11.57 ERA.
Before those flops, Kopech was dealing and looking like the phenom everyone expected when he came from the Red Sox in the Chris Sale deal.
