MLB using sound effects from 'MLB The Show' for injected crowd noise

With no fans in the stands this season, Major League Baseball teams will play crowd noise during games to make up for the hushed atmosphere in ballparks. Where are they getting that crowd noise from?

According to the Associated Press, MLB is taking sounds from its official video game, “MLB The Show.” Stadium sound engineers will have access to 75 effects and fan reactions, which the game’s developer — San Diego Studios, part of Sony Interactive — compiled over the past few baseball seasons.

Without fans, injected crowd noise serves to deliver as close to a real game atmosphere for players as possible.
