The Chicago White Sox have financial flexibility following the well-documented retirement of Adam LaRoche, and could use it to add a left-handed bat such as Jay Bruce, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
The Cincinnati Reds reportedly have made Bruce available, but “haven’t received the right package yet.” Bruce, who has seven seasons of 20 or more homers, will make $12.5 million this season with a $1 million buyout for 2017. The White Sox could easily add the prorated portion of the Bruce deal given they saved $13 million when LaRoche decided to retire.
