Mike Pelfrey throws five scoreless, but Anthony Swarzak gives up four in sixth as White Sox fall to Red Sox

Coming into Wednesday night’s game, Anthony Swarzak had allowed three runs on the season, one of the best arms in the White Sox bullpen.

Wednesday night, he allowed four runs in one inning, the defining frame in the White Sox 4-1 loss to the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Mike Pelfrey silenced the Red Sox, who hit six home runs a night earlier, over five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits before he exited. But the typically reliable Swarzak wasn’t in the top half of the sixth, surrendering the game-tying and go-ahead runs before Christian Vazquez drove in two with a double to grow the Boston lead to 4-1.
