On Saturday afternoon, the White Sox crossed “veteran catching help” off of their wish list for 2024 by once more standing near a dumpster outside of the Atlanta front office and finding Max Stassi — his uniform pockets stuffed with cash, to boot.
On paper, the deal is Stassi for a PTBNL and/or cash. But given that the Braves are taking on most of Stassi’s $7 million for 2024 and the fact that the White Sox couldn’t possibly have much Atlanta needs, envision this as a rebate trade where the two clubs will agree on an amount that goes back to Atlanta based on how much the backstop contributes in 2024.
