The White Sox called up Matt Skole from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday and inserted him into the starting lineup against Indians starter Adam Plutko.
Skole, a 28-year-old left-handed infielder, was originally selected by the Nationals in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, and has spent the last eight seasons in the minors. He was hitting .259 with five home runs at Charlotte after being signed as a minor-league free agent by the Sox in January.
Skole will bat fifth in the Sox lineup while playing first base. Matt Davidson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a back injury.
