Matt Davidson has played in 32 major-league games in his career with the White Sox and Diamondbacks, but he hasn’t yet experienced an opening day.
That will change Monday when the Sox take on the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Sox manager Rick Renteria announced Saturday that Davidson and Cody Asche made the Sox roster, and both could serve as designated hitter at times this season. Both also can back up first and third base, and Asche can play the corner outfield spots.
“You only get your first one once,” Davidson said of opening day.
