CLEVELAND — Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria returned to the team ahead of Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.
Renteria was sidelined Monday after waking in the morning with a slight cough and nasal congestion. After consulting with team doctors, he underwent precautionary testing at a Cleveland hospital. He was not with the team before Monday night’s game against the Indians was postponed because of rain.
Sox bench coach Joe McEwing said Tuesday morning that Renteria was awaiting clearance of MLB’s health and safety protocols. Renteria was at the park Tuesday afternoon, among other things watching Eloy Jimenez take batting practice before Game 1.
