The White Sox invested $4 million in utility man Emilio Bonifacio over the winter with the hopes he would be a solid, versatile option off the bench.
On Sunday before the Sox took on the Cubs in the City Series finale at U.S. Cellular Field, they designated Emilio Bonifacio for assignment.
The Sox made the move as they reinstated outfielder J.B. Shuck off the disabled list and opted to keep rookie outfielder Trayce Thompson on board too. Bonifacio was well liked in the clubhouse but was hitting just .167 with four RBIs over 47 games this season.
