NEW YORK — José Abreu is back in the lineup Friday for the Chicago White Sox as they begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Abreu missed the team’s last three games because of left ankle inflammation. He suffered the injury sliding into home plate for the winning run in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 4-3 victory against the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
“The trainers checked him every day in Minneapolis, checked his progress, (and) here today, he passed the tests as to whether he could field, run the bases,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said before Friday’s game.
