Jose Abreu earned American League Player of the Week honors Monday for the fifth time in his career, but the Chicago White Sox first baseman didn’t care about the personal accolade.
The Sox reached the halfway point of the pandemic-shortened 60-game season with Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Guaranteed Rate Field. And midway through, the Sox are in the running to qualify for the expanded 16-team postseason.
“It will be great, I won’t lie to you,” Abreu said of the playoff possibility, speaking before the game through an interpreter. “It will be a dream come true.
