Jose Abreu will sit out Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers, taking a rare rest day.
“We’ve been riding him a lot,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said, “and you guys know that he plays every single day. He hates DH’ing. I tried to give him a little bit of a blow yesterday as a DH.
“He needs a spell, so today’s a good enough day as any. The heat’s going to be high today,” said Renteria, who added that Abreu discussed taking time off with him. Chicago’s high was forecast at 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
