While the Cubs' $155 million pitcher was put under the microscope last week for failing to hold runners in his debut, the team president threw a ceremonial first pitch at the mascot and got off scot-free.
"He was crowding the plate," Theo Epstein said of Clark the Cub, the pantsless mascot Epstein tried to drill before the opening game at Class A South Bend. "The first spring training in '14, I put his head on and started doing some funny stuff, and he got ticked.
