Outfielder and first baseman Jerry Sands will take the final White Sox roster spot, manager Robin Ventura announced Friday before the team’s exhibition game against the Padres at Petco Park.
The Sox claimed Sands off waivers from the Indians in December, and he fills the roster spot left open by Adam LaRoche’s retirement.
Sands has played in 132 career major-league games over parts of four seasons with the Dodgers, Rays and Indians. He is a career .238 hitter but has strong career splits against left-handed pitchers, hitting .
