Team USA isn’t yet assured it will be part of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics baseball tournament, but Chicago White Sox TV voice Jason Benetti is.
NBC has named Benetti its baseball play-by-play announcer for the pandemic-delayed Summer Games, set to begin in Japan next month.
It’s anticipated Benetti will miss a week or so of White Sox games, but it has not yet been determined exactly how many games he’ll call in the tournament scheduled to begin July 28.
NBC announced the assignments, first reported by The Athletic, on Thursday. Other first-time Olympics announcers with ties to other sports outlets include Noah Eagle, Brendan Burke, Matt Winer, Kate Scott, Derek Rae, Courtney Lyle, Chris Lewis, Rich Lerner, Patrick Kinas, Jenn Hildreth, Rupert Cox, Krista Blunk, Jack Benjamin and Shane Bacon.
