James Shields (4-13, 4.50 ERA) takes the mound Saturday against Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer (11-6, 2.25) on Jim Thome Day at Guaranteed Rate Field.
While the Sox celebrate Thome’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the veteran righty will do the yeoman’s task of eating up innings in a sometimes fruitless effort for a 42-73 squad.
Shields has lasted fewer than six innings only three times in 19 starts since May 1.
He’ll look to break a four-start winless streak, his last outing Sunday resulting in a no-decision in Tampa Bay.
