It didn’t come as much of a surprise, but with just five games remaining on the season, the White Sox officially declared Jose Abreu done for the year.
Abreu has been listed as day-to-day since the middle of the White Sox last road trip after he hospitalized with an infection in his thigh. He’s been in recovery mode ever since, but he’s not recovering fast enough to get into any more game action before time runs out on the 2018 campaign.
It’s been a weird one for Abreu, who went through an atypical, extended slump in the middle of the season but bounced back with a force, only to suffer a pair of freak injuries that had nothing to do with baseball.
