They are 3-8 and 4½ games behind the Tigers in the American League Central after losing five of six on their first homestand. The Sox are off Thursday and open a three-game series against the Yankees on Friday in New York, beginning a stretch of 10 road games in their next 13.
But the pitching has been awful. Especially the starters.
