All of us at the White Sox wish Carlos May a very happy 71st birthday. And as some of you already know, he holds a unique distinction among all major-leaguers, past and present.
The two-time All-Star (1969 and 1972), who is now a Sox community relations representative, is the only major leaguer (and perhaps the only athlete) to have his birthday — May 17 — on the back of his uniform.
Carlos spent nine of his 10 big-league years with the Sox, his best season being 1973 when he belted 20 homers with 96 RBI.
