There's a small implication when scouts say “I like him!” about a prospect. They don't bother saying this about Eloy Jimenez, a veritable future All-Star bat, they say this to differentiate this player from his more forgettable pedigree and reputation.
Multiple scouts I've spoken to like outfielder Ryan Cordell, the 25-year-old the White Sox received from Milwaukee in exchange for the last two months of Anthony Swarzak's dream season. The “fourth outfielder” yoke has been hung around Cordell's neck for much of his time as a professional, but his power potential, his speed and throwing arm, and his ability to cover every outfield position in a pinch leaves plenty of interest in whether he could be more, and the White Sox certainly have some time and opportunity to find out.
