Hey, the White Sox weren’t necessarily wrong when they entered the season with talk about how they could surprise people this year. It’s not surprising that they’re awful, but being one of the single worst teams in MLB history? Surprising perhaps even to the most pessimistic fan.
For example, as bad as we expected this team to be, to have them set a new record for consecutive losses in their 124th year of MLB play is, by definition, surprising. They’re playing their 124th season! More than 10,000 games! Franchise history isn’t exactly littered with sustained runs of success, but statistically, the chances of producing a record-breaking result go down as the sample increases.
