As a young boy I played many sports — soccer, football and tag (is that a sport?) — but I always gravitated to baseball. I loved baseball. This meant, among my friends at least, I was an outlier.
Baseball, to me, was a game that felt both uniquely American and appealing to people of all cultural backgrounds. Maybe because it was located on the South Side of Chicago, but then Comiskey Park — home of the Chicago White Sox — was a place where you would see people like me both in the stands and on the field.
