Jeff Torborg, who managed the White Sox from 1989–1991 and was the American League Manager of the Year in 1990, was honored yesterday as the Union County, New Jersey Freeholder Board dedicated the Jeff Torborg Youth Baseball Field at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside, where he lived for 30 years.
Torborg earned the league honor in ’90 as the White Sox won 94 games, a 25-game improvement from the 1989 season. He also managed the Indians, Mets, Expos and Marlins.
Jeff enjoyed a 10-year major-league playing career with the Dodgers and Angels and was an outstanding defensive catcher.
