I had posited recently that although Michigan quarterback John O’Korn came in against Purdue and promptly gave them the business, the results might be a little different for him as the full-time starter.
I compared O’Korn to myself in that regard, actually: “What I’ve noticed throughout my career as the backup is that I perform my best during the times I’ve been thrown into the spotlight via bad starting quarterback play or an injury. When I know I’m going to start the game, I throw a million interceptions and get sacked a bunch of times. When I have a week to prepare for a game, I put so much pressure on myself to play well that I inevitably play poorly.
