Chicago White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz posed for a photo before Monday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Katz served as their high school pitching coach at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, he watched the two square off for the first time as major-league pitchers.
“It’s really special,” Katz said during a conference call before Tuesday’s game. “I don’t know if this will ever happen again, where a high school coach is in a dugout coaching two guys he had at the age of 14.”
“Obviously the talent’s there but their work ethic, they’re very close; they all want to one-up each other,” Katz said.
