Like you’d expected of most young starters, Dylan Covey has searched for consistency this season. But if there’s one mental hurdle he needs to clear, it’s getting through the fifth inning.
Mind you, it doesn’t always take that long for one of his starts to implode, but Covey has a particular problem with that frame.
As the righthander (4-8, 5.58 ERA) gets set to take on Indians righty Carlos Carrasco (13-6, 3.69), Covey has compiled a 10.45 ERA (12 ER/10.1 IP) in the fifth inning this season.
