Dylan Cease was supposed to make the final start of his rookie season Thursday night. Instead, he was scratched moments before first pitch.
Cease warmed up in the White Sox bullpen and made his way to the dugout but was scratched just before the start of Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Indians. Relief pitcher Jose Ruiz took the field with the team in Cease's place.
The White Sox said that Cease was scratched after suffering a left hamstring strain during his pregame warmups. He'll have a follow-up evaluation Friday.
With 141.1 innings under his belt between Triple-A and the majors, the most he's thrown in a professional season, it wouldn't come as a shock to hear that Cease's season is over with just four games left on the schedule.
