The White Sox have something to defend this weekend at Wrigley Field beyond their pride in the City Series.
The Sox are essentially defending the team as they know it as they try to pile up enough victories to persuade the front office not to dismantle the roster before the July 31 deadline.
And defend they did Friday afternoon.
The Sox completed five double plays, including one to end each of the first four innings, in a 1-0 series-opening victory over the Cubs.
On a day when the Sox scored their only run without a hit in the eighth and rookie left-hander Carlos Rodon tied a career high by walking six, they needed a defensive performance manager Robin Ventura ranked among their best over the last couple of years.
