Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward and White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson are finalists for the Roberto Clemente Award, given to the player that best represents baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, on and off the field.
Heyward donated $300,000 to nonprofit organizations addressing the severe inequities across Chicago during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He contributed $100,000 to MASK (Mothers/Men Against Senseless Killings), a nonprofit violence prevention group which has concentrated on support for low-income youth and families. Heyward also donated $100,000 to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and $100,000 to the University of Chicago Medical Center to support health care workers, as well as patients and families affected by COVID-19.
