Another spot opened on the Cubs’ 40-man roster in advance of Tuesday’s 7 p.m. deadline as infielder Jack Reinheimer was claimed off waivers by the Rangers.
The left-handed hitting Reinheimer, 26, was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Mets on Nov. 2. Reinheimer’s waiver claim puts the Cubs’ 40-man roster at 38.
Pitchers Justin Steele and Trevor Clifton and infielder Jason Vosler are under consideration to be added to the 40-man roster. A source said the Cubs are exploring relievers who aren’t likely to be protected on the 40-man roster by their current teams.
The White Sox have five spots open on their 40-man roster.
