The Cubs saved their money and top prospects at the trade deadline Friday while adding a fifth starter and middle reliever.
The White Sox stood pat and decided to keep Jeff Samardzija.
All that angst for this?
As trade deadlines go, this was one of the least memorable I can remember for two Chicago teams in the thick of wild-card races, especially considering everyone else was jumping into the pool head first.
Neither team did anything to convince their respective fan bases they went the extra mile to assure a postseason spot, playing it conservatively while teams like the Blue Jays, Astros, Nationals, Rangers and Royals went for broke.
