Jerry Reinsdorf was seen standing at an ATM outside Guaranteed Rate Field a few hours before Friday’s second-half opener with the Houston Astros.
Hopefully the Chicago White Sox Chairman had enough left over after his transaction to afford another middle reliever, or perhaps a starting second baseman, or maybe even another outfielder.
With 2½ months remaining in the 2021 season and an eight-game division lead over the Cleveland Indians entering Friday night, the Sox appear to be a lock for October baseball. That means Reinsdorf, executive vice-president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn need to do whatever it takes before the July 30 trade deadline to strengthen the roster in anticipation of facing teams such as the Astros in the postseason.
