The Plan finally appears to be paying off for the Chicago White Sox, who gambled on a long and arduous rebuild they hoped would lead to contending seasons in 2020 and years to come.
While playing in an empty stadium and losing money wasn’t part of Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf’s vision, at least he has to be happy with what he’s seeing on the field.
“Absolutely,” general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday on a teleconference. “We’ve talked about this a lot over the years. One of Jerry’s great traits, besides being in sports for almost four decades and winning all the championships, he’s never lost that perspective of a fan in a good way, in that he feels the same anguish when a managerial decision goes wrong or a player gets hurt or the team doesn’t perform up to expectations.
