Cold — but dry — for today's White Sox home opener

It’s cold but dry on the South Side Thursday morning as the White Sox get ready to meet the Tigers in the home opener.

Parking lots will open at noon, with the gates to the park open at 1:10 p.m.

Former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, now a team ambassador, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the 3:10 p.m. start.

The record for the coldest White Sox home opener is 37 degrees at the first pitch against the Angels at old Comiskey Park on April 5, 1974, according to the Sox. The warmest home opener was 84 degrees April 12, 1977, against the Red Sox.
