Chris Sale officially is forever a part of White Sox history.
The White Sox ace moved past Hall of Famer Ed Walsh and into the record books as he paced the White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
Sale struck out seven batters and finished with 274 in 2015, a new single-season franchise record. Walsh had the previous record with 269 strikeouts in 1908.
With a called third strike against Detroit's James McCann in the second inning, Sale broke Walsh's 107-year-old single-season strikeout record with his 270th whiff. Sale needed only 203 innings to surpass Walsh, who recorded his in 464 innings.
