White Sox manager Robin Ventura looked out from the dugout at the massive new video board beyond center field before the home opener Friday at U.S. Cellular Field and gave his seal of approval.
"I don't know if it will make us play any better, but I like it," Ventura said.
Indeed, all of the sharp, colorful images flashing across the $7.3 million technological wonder couldn't pretty up the Sox's play in a 7-1 loss to the Indians before a crowd of 38,019.
The Sox returned from seven warm weeks in Phoenix, San Diego and Oakland to intermittent snow Friday, and the reception from the fans was even chillier after left-hander John Danks gave up seven runs — five earned — over five innings.
