KANNAPOLIS, N.C — Dylan Cease doesn’t talk about his stuff like it’s the best of any White Sox pitcher in the low minors.
While his velocity regularly sits in the mid-to-high 90s and his arm is “the best it’s ever felt” after he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2014, he says it’s spiked even higher before he was the tantalizing but risky second piece in the package sent to the South Side for Jose Quintana. He’s a bit more generous in describing the progress of his changeup, but only in contrast to saying that he had “no confidence whatsoever” in the pitch as recently as last year.
