Michael Wacha of the St. Louis Cardinals took a no-hitter Sunday into the ninth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates before it was broken up on a single by pinch-hitter Colin Moran leading off the frame.
Wacha struck out eight, walked two and threw 111 pitches before exiting following Moran’s single. He retired the first 13 hitters he faced before walking Francisco Cervelli.
Josh Bell's flyout to the warning track in the second inning was closest the Pirates came to a hit before the ninth.
