Cactus League — where the Cubs and White Sox play — asks MLB to delay the start of spring training in Arizona because of COVID-19

But Cactus League officials have asked Major League Baseball for a delay to the start of spring training because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A letter addressed to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, first obtained by 12 News/KPNX TV, outlined concerns from the Cactus League and leaders from eight cities, which formed a task force amid the ongoing pandemic.

“We are grateful to MLB for its partnership and unified in our commitment to provide a safe, secure environment: to that end the task force has worked to ensure that ballparks are able to meet COVID-19 protocols such as pod seating, social distancing and contactless transactions,” the letter reads.
