From a health standpoint, James Shields looked very much back at his full veteran powers on Father's Day in Toronto. From a stuff standpoint, his barrage of curves, power curves and knuckle curves looked effective and tricked many Blue Jays hitters who were otherwise waiting to jump on his 89-91 mph fastball. From a results standpoint, the magic run-avoidant pixie dust that covered Shields in his first three starts of the year ran out around the sixth inning, with none to share with his White Sox (31-37) bullpen mates. A Russell Martin equalizing home run that barely eluded Willy Garcia's glove and bounced off the top of the wall completed the Jays comeback, erasing an early 3-0 deficit, and a nightmare seventh inning for the Sox bullpen capped off a 7-3 loss, spoiling the chances for a Canadian sweep.
