Sadly, our first real remembrance of the magical 2005 season — to be celebrated all season by the White Sox, as it remains their only title of the past 107 years — comes with a tinge of sadness.

Word broke later Saturday via MLB.com’s Scott Merkin that Bobby Jenks, White Sox surprise closer from the end of 2005 through the World Series win, is battling Stage 4 (adenocarcinoma) stomach cancer. The 43-year-old currently is in Portugal receiving treatment for the disease, which has spread into his bones and lower back. The tumor, in the middle of his body, also has ruptured, which led to stomach bleeding.
