Bessie Largent, the first female scout for the Chicago White Sox organization, was a trailblazer in her own right, paving the way for women in scouting for years to come.
A native of McKinney, Texas, Largent worked for the White Sox alongside her husband Roy between 1925 and 1943.
Bessie first became interested in baseball while her husband Roy was a coach of the McKinney High School baseball team and she served as the scorekeeper.
Roy was hired first by the White Sox as a scout, and she began as his secretary, ensuring he stayed organized and handled the communication between the players, front office staff and managers.
