Bats go silent as White Sox lose to Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals broke out the bats again on Wednesday night and the White Sox couldn’t keep up.

Kansas City’s Nate Karns outdueled Mike Pelfrey and watched a previously struggling offense explode late in a 6-1 victory over the White Sox in front of 22,298 at Kauffman Stadium. Jose Abreu provided the only offense for the White Sox when he blasted a solo home run with two outs in the ninth inning. Karns, who struck out four batters in the sixth inning, and two relievers combined on a two-hitter.

Pelfrey pitched well until the sixth inning.
